Between February 23, 2026 and February 25, 2026, Strategic Education Inc. experienced unauthorized access to its computer network in which copies of certain files were taken. SEI is the parent company of Capella University and Strayer University. Upon discovery of the incident, SEI secured its systems and undertook a review of the affected files. SEI determined on May 21, 2026 that personal information was contained in some of the affected files, including Social Security and driver’s license numbers.
On or about June 1, 2026, SEI filed notice of the incident with state authorities in Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont began sending notification letters to impacted individuals. The breach is so far known to have affected 8,188 Massachusetts residents, 2,673 Maine residents, and 1,065 Vermont residents.
