What Is This About?

If you received a letter or email about a data breach from Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness, Inc. (which operates as Psychiatric Wellness Center, or “PWC”) of Bakersfield, California, your sensitive personal information or protected health information may have been compromised in a recent data breach. What Happened?

On June 22, 2026, PWC’s management company, Genesis Healthcare Management (“Genesis”), observed unusual activity in its network which it later determined to be part of unauthorized access to the network. Genesis immediately began an investigation into the nature and scope of the event with the assistance of third-party specialists. The investigation determined that certain files on Genesis' network, including files from PWC, were accessed without authorization. According to PWC’s report to the California AG, the unauthorized access may have begun as early as April 16, 2026. PWC undertook a review of its files that had been subject to unauthorized access to determine the information they contained and to whom the information relates.

On August 21, 2026, PWC reported the breach to the California Attorney General. PWC has also posted a notice of the breach to its website. PWC is issuing notice letter to affected individuals.

What Information Was Impacted?

According to PWC’s public disclosures, the below categories of information may have been compromised:

• Names;
• Dates of birth;
• Social Security numbers;
• Government ID numbers including driver's license;
• Diagnosis and treatment information;
• Prescription information;
• Medicare/Medicaid ID number;
• Patient account number;
• Provider name and location;
• Dates of service;
• Lab results; and
• Health insurance information.
