What Is This About?

According to dark web monitoring sites including Ransomware.live, the law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP (“Nelson Mullins”) recently experienced an alleged data breach claimed by the cybercriminal threat group known as the Silent Ransom Group (a/k/a LeakedData). Our firm is investigating this incident and would like to speak with people who believe they may be affected.

What Happened?

On October 5, 2026, dark web monitoring websites including Ransomware.live detected that the cybercriminal threat group known as Silent Ransom Group had claimed to have breached data from Nelson Mullins’ systems. In a post to its dark web site known as “LeakedData,” the Silent Ransom Group claimed that ransom negotiations had failed and released the data it claims to have stolen from Nelson Mullins for download.

Nelson Mullins may have possessed personal information related to Carolina Correctional Health (“CCH”), which has provided medical services to incarcerated individuals, including individuals housed at the Gaston County Jail and Gaston County Jail Annex in North Carolina. Carolina Correctional Health itself is not alleged to have experienced this breach.

Nelson Mullins has not confirmed the authenticity of Silent Ransom Group’s claims, the data breach, nor its associated details. Further details, such as the full scope of potentially affected information and the number of potentially affected individuals, remain under investigation.

What Information Was Impacted?

Nelson Mullins has not confirmed the authenticity of the alleged breach. However, as this alleged breach concerns a nationally prominent U.S. law firm with major business and institutional clients, the following categories of information may be at risk:

• Names;
• Contact information such as email and physical address;
• Demographic information;
• Sensitive personal identifiers such as Social Security numbers;
• Government-issued IDs information such as driver’s license;
• Information about health condition, treatment, or diagnosis; and;
• Other sensitive personal and protected health information.
