What Is This About?

IDscan.net, Inc. (“IDscan.net”), a company that provides identity verification services for various industries in North America, is believed to have experienced a data breach exposing the identity documents and more for potentially over 100 million people. Our firm is investigating this incident and would like to speak with people who may be affected.

What Happened?

According to news sources including MSN, the FBI is investigating what appears to be a data breach of hundreds of millions of ID document scans breached from IDScan.net. On August 31, 2026, a user on a Russian-language cybercrime forum published an illicit service called “Nexus” that allows public access to hundreds of millions of ID document scans, along with associated info (such as the date the scan was processed). Research published on September 1, 2026, by cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs indicated that the source of this vast amount of stolen information is likely IDScan.net. Hackers may have retained access to IDscan.net’s systems even as this news broke, as hundreds of thousands of new scans were noted to appear within the Nexus website.

Per the Nexus website’s claims, the stolen scans include more than 153 million US and Canada driver’s licenses, 100 million other identification cards, as well as millions of travel documents and international IDs. On September 4, 2026, IDScan.net released a statement indicating that an unauthorized third party may have accessed and/or copied customer information stored within accounts on IDScan.net’s cloud environment.

What Information Was Impacted?

According to news sources and research by cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs, the following categories of information may have been compromised:

• Names;
• Driver’s license information;
• Commercial driver’s license information;
• Passport information;
• Other government-issued ID information; and
• Other sensitive personal information.
