According to dark web monitoring sources, Golden State Orthopedics & Spine (“Golden State Ortho”) of California may have experienced a data breach allegedly carried out by the threat group Brain Cipher. What Happened?

On July 1, 2026, dark web monitoring websites including Ransomware.live detected that the threat actor group known as Brain Cipher claimed to have acquired files from Golden State Ortho in a data breach. Brain Cipher claims to have obtained 150 gigabytes of “documents and files” from Golden State Ortho. Accompanying Brain Cipher’s post about Golden State Ortho is a “deadline” of July 8, 2026, implying that Brain Cipher has issued a ransom demand to Golden State Ortho.

As of publication, Golden State Ortho has not confirmed the alleged breach. Details of the alleged breach such as timing, duration, and the scope of information accessed remain under investigation.

What Information Was Impacted?

Golden State Ortho has not confirmed this alleged breach. Based on the nature of ransomware attacks and Golden State Ortho’s business, the following categories of personal information and protected health information may have been compromised:
