On or about January 25, 2025, GA Heritage experienced a ransomware attack that impacted its network systems. The credit union discovered the unauthorized activity on February 10, 2025. An investigation determined that certain files within its network may have been accessed by unauthorized parties.
After discovering the incident, the credit union secured its systems and retained a third-party cybersecurity firm to investigate the scope of the breach. A separate vendor reviewed the affected files to identify the individuals involved and determine what information may have been impacted. Notice letters were mailed to affected individuals beginning on January 15, 2026. Approximately 43,077 individuals were affected nationwide, including 18 Maine residents.
