What Happened?

On March 3, 2025, the Counseling Center became aware of a security incident on its server. Upon detection, Counseling Center immediately began taking steps to contain the activity and launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party likely gained access to one of the Counseling Center’s servers on March 2, 2025 and removed data from Counseling Center systems on March 3, 2025. Counseling Center conducted a comprehensive review of the impacted data to determine what information was compromised and identified affected individuals. On December 9, 2025, the Counseling Center completed this process. On February 9, 2026, Counseling Center filed a notice with the Office of the Maine Attorney General, posted a public notice on the Counseling Center’s website, and started sending out notice letters to the impacted individuals.
