On January 25, Beacon Mutual publicly disclosed the incident after it appeared on ransomware tracking sites. The known threat group INC Ransom has claimed responsibility for the attack, in which it claims to have obtained 275 gigabytes of sensitive data from Beacon Mutual’s systems.
Beacon Mutual undertook a review of the files involved, which completed on April 16, 2026. On May 18, 2026, Beacon Mutual filed notice of the breach with state authorities in Massachusetts and Maine and began to send letters to affected individuals.
