What Is This About?

According to dark web monitoring sources and Cybernews.com, Dexcom Inc., a California company that develops and manufactures diabetes management devices including CGMs (continuous glucose monitors), experienced a data breach allegedly carried out by the threat group known as ShinyHunters. Our firm is investigating this incident and would like to speak with people who are current or former users of Dexcom’s CGM systems, or another Dexcom product.

What Happened?

On or around October 1, 2026, dark web monitoring websites including Hacknotice.com detected that the cybercriminal threat group known as ShinyHunters had claimed to have breached data from Dexcom in a post made to the threat group’s dark web leak site. ShinyHunters has threatened to release the allegedly stolen files on the dark web at the end of the day on Friday, October 2, 2026, if their extortion demands are not met. ShinyHunters is a notorious threat group known for a variety of cyberattacks, including a recent data breach of FBI employees.

An October 1, 2026 article by Stefanie Schappert of Cybernews.com reported on ShinyHunters’ claims and stated that Dexcom had not responded to the publication’s request for comment. As of publication, Dexcom has not confirmed the alleged breach’s authenticity. Details of the alleged breach, such the full scope of potentially affected information and the number of potentially affected individuals, remain under investigation.

What Information Was Impacted?

Dexcom has not confirmed that it suffered a data breach. Based on Dexcom’s business operations, including tracking patient health information sourced from CGM devices via phone apps, the following categories of information may be at risk:

• Names;
• Health information such as info about medical treatment, condition, or diagnosis;
• Health insurance information;
• Contact information;
• Location information;
• Demographic information; and
• Other sensitive personal information and protected health information.
