What Is This About?

According to dark web monitoring sources, the threat group known as Storm recently claimed to have carried out a data breach against multiple banks associated with the First Secure Bank Group of Illinois (collectively, “First Secure”). Our firm is investigating this incident and would like to speak with people who have ever opened an account with, or otherwise received banking or financial services from, a First Secure bank – including the First Secure State Bank Group, First Secure Community Bank, and First Secure Bank and Trust.

What Happened?

On or around September 18, 2026, dark web monitoring websites including Ransomware.live detected that the cybercriminal threat group known as Storm posted three entries to its dark web leak site that all claimed a data breach of different banks affiliated with First Secure: the State Bank Group, First Secure Community Bank, and First Secure Bank and Trust. With each of these entries, Storm included images as purported proof, which appear to show documents that may contain customer sensitive personal information.

As of publication, First Secure Bank Group has not confirmed the authenticity of the alleged breach(es). Details of the alleged breach, such the full scope of potentially affected information and the number of potentially affected individuals, remain under investigation. However, given the simultaneous postings by the Storm group, it may be the case that all these First Secure banks were breached simultaneously.

What Information Was Impacted?

While First Secure has not confirmed the alleged breach nor its associated details, based on claims made by the Storm threat group, the following categories of information may have been compromised:

• Names;
• Contact information;
• Financial account information;
• Social Security number;
• Government-issued IDs such as passport or driver’s license; and
• Other sensitive personal information.
