What Happened?

On March 16, 2026, a cyberattack targeted one of AssuranceAmerica’s employees. AssuranceAmerica detected suspicious activity on part of its IT systems on the following day, March 17, 2026. AssuranceAmerica immediately began an investigation and hired external computer forensic specialists to help determined the nature and scope of the incident.The investigation determined that, as a result of the targeted attack, an unauthorized third party accessed the company’s IT systems and copied a number of data files, including files containing sensitive personal information.

AssuranceAmerica then conducted a review of the affected files to identify individuals whose information may have been contained within those files. On June 15, 2026, AssuranceAmerica completed this review and began providing individual notice to affected persons. AssuranceAmerica reported the breach to the Attorneys General of California and Nebraska on June 17, 2026. The breach was reported to the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs on June 18, 2026. At least 611,046 South Carolina residents are among those affected.
