Heart South recently disclosed that it was the victim of a data breach that exposed individuals’ sensitive personal and protected health information. What Happened?

On November 11, 2025, Heart South Cardiovascular Group, PC learned that an unauthorized party claimed to possess its data. An investigation determined that, individuals’ personal and protected health information was compromised.

On April 6, 2026, Heart South filed a notice with the Maine Attorney General, reporting that approximately 46,666 individuals were impacted. Heart South has begun notifying affected individuals and these notices include additional information about the data breach and steps you can take to protect yourself.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised:

                    • Protected health information;
                    • Medical information;
                    • Social Security number; and
                    • Other personally identifiable information. 

Not every individual had all of this information exposed, but even limited data can increase the risk of identity theft or fraud.
