In March 2026, Monmouth University identified unauthorized access to its internal systems. Upon discovering the incident, the university promptly activated its cybersecurity response protocols, engaged third-party cybersecurity experts, and notified federal authorities, including the FBI and the Department of Education.

An investigation revealed that an unauthorized third party infiltrated the university’s network and accessed certain information therein.

Following the incident, Monmouth University began assessing the scope of the breach to determine what information was affected and which individuals were impacted. Monmouth students received an email on March 13, 2026 from the university president confirming that unauthorized access to files on Monmouth’s network had taken place.

In a statement to Comparitech on March 26, 2026, Monmouth indicated that it is in the process of reviewing the affected files, and further notifications to affected individuals are expected as the investigation progresses.
