What Is This About?

If you recently received a letter or an email from Barrio Comprehensive Family Health Care Center, which does business as CommuniCare Health Centers (“CommuniCare”), informing you that your sensitive personal or protected health information was compromised in a data breach, we would like to speak with you about your rights and potential legal remedies. CommuniCare recently disclosed that it was the victim of a data breach that exposed individuals’ sensitive personal and protected health information.

What Happened?

On September 16, 2025, CommuniCare became aware of suspicious activity involving an employee email account. Upon discovery, CommuniCare took immediate steps to secure its email system and network and launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party gained access to a limited number of emails within an employee's email account. CommuniCare then conducted a comprehensive review of the impacted emails to determine what information was contained within them and which individuals may have been affected. On February 19, 2026, CommuniCare completed its review of the affected emails and determined that certain individuals’ sensitive personal and protected health information may have been included in the compromised data set. On March 6, 2026, CommuniCare posted notice of the breach to its website. On March 9, 2026, the website for the Texas Attorney General published a report on the breach, revealing that 19,885 Texans were potentially affected.

What Information Was Impacted?

Upon information and belief, the following types of sensitive personal and protected health information may have been compromised:

            • Provider location information;
            • Patient account numbers;
            • Health insurance account numbers;
            • Clinical information;
            • Health insurance group numbers;
            • Medical treatment or procedure information; and
            • Prescription information.
